Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the study (required in section 9.3.2) does not need to be conducted if the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (i.e. a log Kow of less than or equal to 3), which is the case for EDDS acid (with an estimated log Pow of <-1.4) and also trisodium EDDS (log Pow of <-4.7).

Additional information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the study (required in section 9.3.2) does not need to be conducted if the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (i.e. a log Kow of less than or equal to 3), which is the case for EDDS acid (with an estimated log Pow of <-1.4) and also trisodium EDDS (log Pow of <-4.7).

It is generally assumed that non-ionised organic substances with a log Kow below 3 are not significantly bioaccumulative. Table R.7.10 -4 of the REACH standard information requirements gives a fish BCF of <2000 and a BMF of 1 for organic substances with a low Kow of <4.5.
