1-Nitropropane has a high water solubility (1.5 wt%) and low log Kow (0.79). Thus, the compound will have little tendency to adsorb to soil or sediments or bioaccumulate.1-Nitropropane is stable in water. Biodegradation screening tests indicate that 1-nitropropane is not readily biodegradable, but meets the OECD criteria of inherent, primary biodegradability. Upon release to the atmosphere, the compound will react with hydroxyl radicals with a predicted half-life of 37 days.
