Additional information

Because naphthenic acid is a mixture of many different isomers of cycloalkyl carboxylic acids, physicochemical properties vary according to the proportions of the individual compounds in their composition. Therefore in many cases it is not possible to set a specific endpoint value as results will vary dependent on the hydrocarbon component make-up of the complex mixture. The registrant has undertaken every effort to provide representative data to reflect the substance's intrinsic properties.

The endpoints vapour pressure and partition coefficient are addressed using the EPISuite computer model (US EPA, 2009). In order to obtain representative results and to gain an understanding on the characteristics of the respective endpoint the registrant used various hydrocarbon acidic structures which are in concordance with substance identification.
