Description of key information

The acute toxicity in the various genera examined revealed LC50 (EC50) values > 885 mg/L and chronic (long-term) NOECs for fish and invertebrates (daphniae) >100mg/L (above limit dose). For the guidelines which have limit values, the LC50 for glycerol is much higher than the limit value of 100 mg/L. Glycerol is considered a primordial biomolecule common to all species (Lehninger, 1970).
