Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Results and discussion
Any other information on results incl. tables
The results of the performed data analysis on the FOREGS database are presented here. A general overview for Europe is given, based on the outcome of the FOREGS-program. The FOREGS Geochemical Baseline Mapping Program's main aim was to provide high quality, multi-purpose environmental geochemical baseline data for Europe. In the results data from EU-27 countries is displayed for subsoil and topsoil analyses.
The FOREGS data resulted in 837 soil samples spread over Europe. Barium levels ranged between 10 mg/kg dry wt and 1669 mg/kg with 50th/90th percentiles of 65 and 144 mg/kg dry wt. The maximum values were determined in the UK and France (over 1300 mg/kg) where the lowest concentrations are found in Denmark and France. All data points appeared to be above or equal to the detection limit (1 mg/kg dry wt).
The tables below presents the country-specific 50th and 90th percentiles of baseline Ba levels in topsoil.
The data that were presented in these Tables were used for the construction of an environmental concentration distribution for Europe. It was decided, however, to exclude the countries that do not belong to the EU-27 (including Norway). The developed ECD can be considered as a reliable attempt to derive a typical median value of barium in European topsoil. The overall median in Europe (50th percentile of the generated log-triangular distribution) is 61.9 mg/kg dry wt.
