Description of key information

Additional information

Data on physical properties for propane-1 -thiol (CAS 107-03-9) were obtained from a number of primary and secondary sources. The data in the secondary sources are based on a critical evaluation of peer-reviewed data and the selected values are considered to be reliable and representative of the property under investigation. Information in the review process was documented in the introduction of the source. The use of Klimisch codes (Klimisch et al., 1997), was extended to these secondary sources and a reliability code of (2) valid with restrictions was assigned when using the authoritative secondary source. Some data have been read across from propane-2 -thiol. Both propane-1-thiol and propane-2-thiol have the same molecular weight and are characterised by an SH functional group with an aliphatic carbon chain. The substances vary slightly in having straight and branched aliphatic carbon chains respectively, but the similarities of the physico-chemical, environmental fate and ecotoxicity properties are apparent.

Based on a boiling point of 68°C and a flashpoint of -17°C, propane-1-thiol is classified as Category 2 flammable liquid and vapour (H225) under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP).
