Acute toxicity values:

Fish: LC50 (96hr) =70 000mg/l

Invertebrates: EC50 (48hr) =10 000mg/l

Algae: EC50 (96hr) = 6 500mg/l

Evidence from QSARs indicates that algae are the most sensitive and fish the least sensitive trophic level, confirmed by both the measured and chronic data.

Chronic toxicity values

Fish: No experimental study available, but evidence suggests that the NOEC would be higher than that for invertebrates.

Invertebrates: (Ceriodaphnia, 7 day NOEC): 8590mg/l


EC10/20 (activated sludge respiration inhibition) > 1995mg/l

For the most sensitive species, algae, the critical component appears to be MEG in terms of toxicity contribution and it appears to be reasonable to use data from this component to derive conservative conclusions for the aquatic toxicity of the multi-constituent substance that is the subject of this registration dossier.
