Biodegradation of the substance in the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) test, similar to the OECD 301D Closed Bottle Test, reached 73% in 20 days, consistent with a description as readily biodegradable. The 10-day window criteria was also met.

Results of ready biodegradation testing in the OECD 301F test were complicated by some apparent losses of DIBC from the reaction mixtures by volatilization. Thus, measurement of biodegradation based on oxygen consumption tended to underestimate the biodegradation potential of the compound. The percent biodegradation for the test substance system ranged from 54.1% to 64.0% of ThOD after 28 days for four replicates across two independent tests. Considering that some test compound was lost by volatilization and thus did not contribute to the measured oxygen consumption, the results are consistent with a description as readily biodegradable as determined in the BOD test described above.
