Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Hydrolysis

Based on the hydrolytic stability of the read across substance 3-chloro-o-xylene and the Hammett structure-activity relationship regarding the electron donating effect of meta- and para-methyl groups on an aromatic ring, it was concluded that 4-chloro-o-xylene would be hydrolytically stable (half-life > 1 year at 25 °C).

Biodegradation

The results of the key study (conducted using the closed bottle test) support the conclusion that the test material does not meet the criteria as being readily biodegradable. The average biodegradation for duplicate test flasks at 28 days for the test material was 1 %. The test material therefore did not satisfy the test criteria for ready biodegradability (60 % degradability within 28 days).

Adsorption

In the key study, the test material adsorption coefficient (Koc) for soil was estimated to be 16 ± 1 at 23 °C by batch equilibrium analysis, indicating that the test material is not strongly adsorbed. This is equivalent to log Koc = 1.20 ± 0.03 at 23 °C.
