Description of key information

Low potential for bioaccumulation.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The parent substance as well as the hydrolysis products have a low potential for bioaccumulation (log Kow < 3).

No experimental studies are available investigating the bioaccumulation of dimethoxy(dimethyl)silane (CAS No. 1112-39-6). Dimethoxy(dimethyl)silane hydrolyses rapidly to dimethylsilanediol (DMSD) and methanol under environmental conditions (DT50 < 0.6 h at pH 7, pH 9 and 25 °C). Thus the bioaccumulation assessment is based on the hydrolysis products DMSD and methanol rather than the parent substance. Both hydrolysis products have low log Pow values indicating a low potential for bioaccumulation (DMSD: -0.38, methanol: -0.74, OECD SIDS, 2004). Thus, in accordance with Annex IX, 9.3.2., column 2 no study needs to be conducted since the log Pow is well below 3 and bioaccumulation is not expected.
