Description of key information

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex X, long-term and reproductive toxicity testing with birds is not required.

Additional information

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex X, long-term and reproductive toxicity testing with birds (required in Section 9.6) is not needed because a large mammalian dataset is available. Therefore, further in vivo testing on birds is not considered necessary or justified on ethical grounds. In addition, the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation based on its low log Kow of << 3 (parent: 2, silanol hydrolysis product: -0.38). Excretion of both forms via the renal pathway can be expected and bioaccumulation is not expected based on toxicokinetic considerations.


Hydrolysis of the registered substance occurs rapidly, and systemic exposure in mammals is expected. Based on the low molecular weight (below 300 g/mol) and high water solubility of the hydrolysis product, it is likely to be distributed in the body and is likely to be excreted by the kidneys into urine. Rapid absorption into the blood and fast elimination from the blood via urine was observed with related alkoxysilane substances. In conclusion, further assessment of secondary poisoning is not considered necessary.
