Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Workers - Hazard for the eyes

Local effects

Hazard assessment conclusion:
medium hazard (no threshold derived)

Additional information - workers

The substance is classified as both a skin and respiratory sensitiser in accordance with the requirements of Directive 67/548/EEC (DSD) and Annex VI of Regulation 1272/2008 (CLP).

As such, sensitisation is to be regarded as the most sensitive end-point and no DNEL can be derived due to the lack of reliable dose-response data. A qualitative risk characterisation is therefore necessary and this is detailed in the accompanying CSR.

Availability of a national Occupational Exposure Limit Value (OEL)

No exposure limits are currently in place for the registered substance, MTHPA although Finland indicates an 8 hour limit of 0.17 mg/m3 for a specific isomer of the substance (CAS 26590 -20 -5) (Reference document: Sosiaali- ja terveysministeriön julkaisuja 2014:2.http://urn.fi/URN:ISBN:978-952-00-3479-5).

A guide value of 0.005 mg/m3 has been stated by the Swedish Work Environment Authority for combined exposure to organic anhydrides during 15 minutes of inhalation. No further information on the scientific background and derivation method was made available. (Reference document: Chemical Hazards in the Working Environment Provisions and General Recommendations of the Swedish Work Environment Authority on Chemical Hazards in the Working Environment (20111) - AFS 2011:19).

For this substance, suitable personal protection equipment must be made available to workers and its use made mandatory to control potential exposure to within the concentration value of the applicable OEL.
