The substance 7a-ethyldihydro-1H,3H,5H-oxazolo[3,4 -c]oxazole (98.55% w/w) is a colourless liquid at room temperature with a slight amine smell.

It has the following physical and chemical properties:

  • freezing point of 1°C
  • boiling point (at atmospheric pressure) of 187.0°C ± 2.5°C.
  • relative density of 1.08 at 20°C
  • vapour pressure of 60.6Pa at 25°C ± 0.5°C and 37.6Pa at 20°C ± 0.5°C
  • miscibility in water in all proportions at ambient temperature, 10°C and 30°C and in all proportions in pH5 and 9 buffers.
  • octanol-water partition coefficient (Log P) at 25°C as follows: in distilled deionised water: Log P = -0.32, in pH 5: Log P = -1.1, and in pH 9: Log P = -0.31 
  • surface tension of 71.4 +/- 0.6mNm-1at 25°C
  • a high flash point of 79°C, no pyrophoric properties and no evolvement of gas when in contact with water (not flammable)
  • no auto-ignition or auto-flammability properties
  • no characteristics of being an explosive or an oxidizing agent.
  • pH of 10.0 at 22°C
  • dissociation constant of 4.0 at ambient temperatire
  • viscosity of 5.2 mPa.s at 20 °C and 3.1mPas at 40°C
