Biodegradation in water

The ready biodegradability of methyl acetate was tested according to several methods. Methyl acteate proved to be readily biodegradable in all tests. 2 tests were according to OECD 301 (301 C and 301 D) of which the test according to OECD 301 D over a period of 28 days is the most reliable.

The mean degradation rate of methyl acetate based on oxygen was > 68% within the 10-day window and reached 70% at the end of the test period. Methyl acetate reaches the 10 -days window.

Sediments (simulation testing)

In accordance with Annex IX sections 9.2.1.2 column 2 and section 9.2.1.4 column 2 simulation tests on the biodegradation in surface water or sediment are not necessary, because methyl acetate is readily biodegradable. For details please refer to chapter 5.2.1 of the technical dossier.

Soil

In accordance with Annex IX section 9.2.1.3 column 2 a simulation test on the biodegradation in soil is not necessary, because methyl acetate is readily biodegradable. For details please refer to chapter 5.2.1 of the technical dossier.
