Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
General advice: Take off immediately all contaminated clothing.
Dust inhalation: Blow nose. Move to fresh air. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed. Hospitalize immediately.
Skin contact: Wash immediately, abundantly and thoroughly with soap and water. Consult a doctor quickly. In case of extensive burns: Hospitalize immediately.
Eye contact: Wash open eyes immediately, abundantly and thoroughly for at least 15 minutes. Consult an ophthalmologist immediately.
Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting, rinse mouth and lips with plenty of water if the subject is conscious, then hospitalize.
Protection of first-aiders: In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment. Protective suit
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media: Foam, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Water spray
Unsuitable extinguishing media: High volume water jet
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:
Thermal decomposition giving toxic and corrosive products, Carbon oxides, Tin oxides, Hydrogen chloride gas
Advice for firefighters:
Specific methods: In case of fire nearby, remove exposed containers. Use water spray to cool unopened containers
Special protective actions for fire-fighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:
Evacuate non-essential staff and those not equipped with individual protection apparatus. Do not smoke. Prohibit contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of dusts. Wear respiratory protection. Use personal protective equipment.
Environmental precautions: Do not release into the environment. Do not let product enter drains.
Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up:
Recovery:
Shovel or sweep up. After cleaning, flush away traces with water. Recover product from waste water by decanting. Recover waste water for
processing later.
Elimination:
Destroy the product by incineration (in accordance with local and national regulations). Dispose of rinse water in accordance with local and
national regulations.
Handling and storage
Precautions for safe handling: Technical measures/Precautions:
Storage and handling precautions applicable to products: Solid. VERY TOXIC. Corrosive. Provide appropriate
exhaust ventilation at machinery and at places where dust can be generated. Provide showers, eye-baths. Provide self-contained breathing
apparatus nearby. Provide electrical earthing of equipment.
Safe handling advice:
Strictly limit the quantities of product in the work area to those which are absolutely necessary for the work in hand. Great cleanliness in work
areas is a necessary and important factor for safety. Take maximum precautions when handling. Handle and open container with care. Keep
container closed when not in use. Follow the safety instructions. Do not permit any leak. Use only with adequate ventilation. In case of
insufficient ventilation, wear wear self contained breathing apparatus.
Hygiene measures:
Prohibit contact with skin and eyes and inhalation of dust (or vapours). Follow general hygiene guidelines. When using do not eat, drink or
smoke. Wash hands after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:
Store in original container. Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place. Store protected from moisture and heat. Do not permit any leak. Provide
impermeable floor. Take all necessary measures to prevent accidental spillages of the product from entering into drains and water courses in
the event of failure of containers or transfer systems. Provide earthing and safe electrical equipment.
Incompatible products: Strong acids, Reducing agents, Bases
Packaging material:
Recommended: Stainless steel, High density polyethylene (HDPE)
