Description of key information

Bis(2-ethylhexyl) hydrogen phosphateshowed 55.73 % respiration inhibition of activated sludge at the highest test item concentration of 1000 mg/L. An EC10 of 196 mg/L and an EC50 of 890 mg/L were obtained in this test. The effect value relates to nominal concentration, since no analytical monitoring was performed.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
890 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
196 mg/L

Additional information

In order to test the toxicity to mircoorganism of bis(2-ethylhexyl) hydrogen phosphate, activated sludge from predominantly domestic sewage plant was exposed to the test solution of five nominal concentrations of bis(2-ethylhexyl) hydrogen phosphate (100, 180, 320, 560 and 1000 mg/L), blank control solution and solution with positive reference substance for a period of 3 hours. The study was carried out according to OECD TG 209. Dissolved oxygen was recorded and respiration rates were calculated. No physico-chemical oxygen consumption was observed at the highest concentration of bis(2-ethylhexyl) hydrogen phosphate. Bis(2-ethylhexyl) hydrogen phosphate showed 55.73 % respiration inhibition of activated sludge at the highest test item concentration of 1000 mg/L.

This toxicity study is classified as acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirements for the toxicity study to mircoorganisms.
