Description of key information

In accordance with section 7.11 of Column 2 of Annex VII, the study does not need to be conducted if there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule. 2,6-Xylenol is considered not to contain any chemical groups indicating explosive properties, taking into consideration the chemical structure of the substance, Appendix 6 of UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria for the use of screening procedures to assess explosive properties and the ECHA Endpoint specific guidance (R.7a).
In addition, the oxygen balance (OB) was calculated as described in the ECHA Endpoint specific guidance (R.7a). The OB can be calculated for 2,6-Xylenol to be -262 (where OB = -1600 [2x + (y/2) – z] / molecular weight = -1600 [16 + 5 – 1] / 122.16; x = number of carbon atoms, y = number of hydrogen atoms, z = number of oxygen atoms). As the OB for 2,6-Xylenol is less than -200, a negative result is predicted and thus testing does not need to be conducted.
