Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

This information requirement is waived, according to Column 2 guidance of REACh Annex IX. The stability of biphenyl in organic solvent is not relevant to most of the toxicological and physical property testing. In studies where the substance was dissolved and dosed in organic solvent, the stability of the substance in that solvent was determined as part of the study.

Additional information

Stability in organic solvents and the identity of relevant degradation products is only required if stability of the substance is considered to be critical. A study on the stability of a test substance in an organic solvent is normally undertaken in support of those ((eco)toxicological) studies in which the substance is dissolved in an organic solvent. The objective of the stability test being to confirm whether the test substance is stable under the storage conditions for the duration of the storage of the organic solvent or extract containing the test substance. For biphenyl these stability determinations are considered to be included in the studies where relevant. Following the above, it is considered not necessary to further determine the stability of biphenyl in organic solvents.
