Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Based on Column 2 of Annex X of REACh, testing with birds is not necessary due to the extensive mammalian toxicitity dataset and because the CSA indicates PEC/PNEC < 1 for terrestrial vertebrates.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Based on column 2 of Annex X of the REACH regulation, the need for testing should be carefully considered taking into account the large mammalian dataset that is usually available at this tonnage level. Because there is indeed sufficient information on the toxicity of biphenyl to mammals which can be used for derivation of a preliminary PNEC for birds and because the chemical safety assessment does not indicate the need for PNEC refinement, there is currently no need for further testing in this direction.
