Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A hydrolysis half-life time of CBS of 13.4 h in deionized water at pH 7.0 and 20°C was observed. The hydrolysis products were identified as cyclohexylamine, 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) and benzothiazole (BT).

The UV spectrum of CBS indicates that photodegradation under environmental conditions is possible. A half-life of 26 minutes of CBS due to direct phototransformation in water at midday in August was obtained. The indirect atmospheric oxidation rate by reaction with OH-radicals was estimated by using AOPWIN v1.93 to be 79.4902*10-12 cm3/(molecule-sec) and half-life thus 0.202 days (4.8 h). The estimated half-life in air of CBS is much shorter than 48 hours and hence no potential for long-range transport of CBS in air is expected.

The main abiotic degradation products of CBS and its metabolites of MBT and MBTS are BT and its further product as BTon. In the EU-Risk Assessment, BT and BTon are reported as persistent under environmental conditions. Another described metabolite from CBS is MeSBT, which is also reported as resistant both to biodegradation and photolysis.
