Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Name:
2,2,4(or 2,4,4)-Trimethylhexane-1,6-diisocyanate
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
liquid
Reference substance:
2,2,4(or 2,4,4)-Trimethylhexane-1,6-diisocyanate
Reference substance:
2,2,4(or 2,4,4)-Trimethylhexane-1,6-diisocyanate
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

2,2,4 (or 2,4,4)-trimethylhexane-1,6-diisocyanate itself hydrolyses rapidly (see chapter 5.1.2) therefore the substance itself as well as the main degradation product are evaluated. Although screening tests on biodegradation in water showed that the substance and its main degradation product are neither readily nor inherently degradable, the substance is regarded as not PBT/vPvB since only this criterion is fulfilled. The substance itself hydrolyses rapidly. The log Kow of 2,2,4 (or 2,4,4)-trimethylhexane-1,6-diamine (main degradation product) was determined experimentally according to OECD guideline No. 117. The value of -0.3 at 25 °C and pH 7.5 is well below the criterion of 4.5.

No long-term data for ecotoxicological tests are available. The acute test data show that the LC50 and EC50 values, respectively are well above 0.1 mg/l, the screening criterion for toxicity is not fulfilled.

Furthermore, the substance is not classified as carcinogenic (category 1 or 2), mutagenic (category 1 or 2) or toxic for reproduction (category 1, 2 or 3) according to Directive 67/548/EEC or carcinogenic (category 1A or 1B), germ cell mutagenic (category 1A or 1B) or toxic for reproduction (category 1A, 1B or 2) according to Regulation EC No 1272/2008. Furthermore, there are no other signs of chronic toxicity as identified by the classifications T, R48, or Xn, R48 according to Directive 67/548/EEC or specific target organ toxicity after repeated exposure (STOT RE category 1 or 2) according to Regulation EC No 1272/2008
