Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Data on toxicity to microorganisms are available in the ECB IUCLID (2000) for 2-nitrophenol. The EC50 after 3 h using activated sludge of a predominantly domestic sewage in an OECD 209 guideline study was determined to be 400 mg/L. Hence, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
