Description of key information

The acute toxicity of Methyl isothiocyanate was evaluated with Pseudokirschneriella subcapitata in a study performed in accordance with OECD testing guideline 201 and GLP requirements.ECr50-72 h was estimated using measured concentrations as being equal to 0.58 mg/L. (For information, ECb50-72 h was estimated equal to 0.28 mg/L).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
0.58 mg/L

Additional information

The acute toxicity of Methyl isothiocyanate was evaluated with Pseudokirschneriella subcapitata in a study performed in accordance with OECD testing guideline 201 and GLP requirements.

The algae were exposed to nominal test concentrations between 0.03 and 1.2 mg/L under static conditions during 72 hours. The mean measured concentrations were not maintained between 80 and 120 % of nominal. ECr50-72 h was estimated using measured concentrations as being equal to 0.58 mg/L. (For information, ECb50-72 h was estimated equal to 0.28 mg/L).

Temperatures, pH range and dissolved oxygen concentration were reported and in agreement with the guideline recommendations. Quality criteria were fulfilled.
