Description of key information

Sodium azide is an inorganic white crystalline solid, which is non-combustible and decomposes between 370 °C and 425 °C. Due to the decomposition, no melting point nor boiling point could be determined. Despite thermal decomposition, the self-ignition temperature of sodium azide was set to be 309 °C. Additionally, the substance was tested for explosive properties (EU method A.14), which includes testing on explosive behaviour towards friction, shock and heating but based on the criteria must not be classified as an explosive. At 20 °C, the substance has a water solubility of 408.0 g/L and a density of 1.846 g/cm³. The particle size distribution of the solid powder is: D(v; 0.1) = 108.0 µm; D(v; 0.5) = 247.1 µm; D(v; 0.9) = 489.8 µm.
